How do I open and edit a building?
ForProperty managers
Who can do this
Organization admins and members with View Properties. Editing needs Edit Properties. Staff whose role is limited to assigned properties can't open the building page.
Where to find it
Properties → a building row, or Part of <building> on a unit's page, or search (⌘K) for the building.
Steps
- The header shows the name, address, "Condo building, N units managed" and the number of owners. The Actions card on the right holds the building's actions.
- Units lists each unit with its owner, its fee terms (or Terms missing), and its tenant and lease dates (or Vacant with Create a lease). Click a unit to open its property page.
- Owners lists each owner once with the units they own here.
- Notes holds shared building notes (access codes, concierge hours, move-in rules). Use Add notes or Edit.
- Documents, Preferred vendors and Expenses hold the building-level work described in their own articles.
- To change the name, address or condo corporation, click Edit in the header, make the change and click Save and update N units.
What happens next
Renaming the building or changing its address updates every unit in it within a few seconds. Each unit keeps its own unit number. Leases, notices already served and statements already generated keep the details they were made with.
Good to know
- Archived units are updated too.
- Leaving a building field blank keeps the units' existing value.
- On a phone, the right-hand cards open from the Actions sheet.
Limits
- Landlord (solo) accounts can't use buildings.
- Staff limited to assigned properties see their building as a row on Properties that lists their units; they can't open the building page.
- A building has no owner or management contract of its own.
- Maintenance requests and inspections aren't logged on the building. Log them on the unit they affect.
Troubleshooting
- "Building unavailable": your account isn't an organization, your role is limited to assigned properties, or the link is wrong.
- "Give the building a name.": the name can't be blank.
