How do I undo a deposit return or forfeit recorded by mistake?

ForLandlordsProperty managers

Who can do this

Landlord, Organization admin, Organization members with Create Transactions.

Where to find it

Lease page → Actions → Deposit → under the deductions.

Steps

  1. Click Undo return (or Undo forfeit).
  2. Read the dialog ("Undo this deposit return?"), type a Reason.
  3. Click the red Undo return.

What happens next

Toast "Deposit return undone" ("The deposit is held again. You can process the return now."). The return's entries are voided, any deductions to the owner are reversed, and the tenant gets an in-app notice (no email). Process the return again as normal.

Good to know

A balance returned after a last month's rent deposit paid the final month is listed under Balance returned to the tenant, each with its own Undo (Undo balance return).

Troubleshooting

The dialog blocks the undo, with a button to the place to fix it, when: money from the return is already in an owner payout (void the payout first; Open owner payouts), the return is matched to a bank feed row (unmatch it; Open in Bank Feed), or the month is in a closed accounting period (an approver reopens it).
