How do I record income?
ForLandlordsProperty managers
Who can do this
Landlord; Organization users with Create Transactions.
Where to find it
Accounting → Add transaction → Income.
Steps
- Skip or use Start from a document.
- How much came in?: enter Amount and, if any, GST / HST. Continue.
- Which property is it for?: pick a property or unit, or leave it empty for business-level income. Continue.
- Organizations only, Whose money is this?: choose My business income (see the next article for Collecting for the owner).
- What kind of income?: pick a category chip. Continue.
- Who paid, and how?: choose or type the payer (Payer/Payee), the Payment Method (you can type a new one) and the Date. Continue.
- Anything else? (optional): add a Description or make it recurring.
- Click Add transaction in the header.
What happens next
No toast; the form closes and the entry appears on Overview, posted.
Good to know
- Landlord categories include Rent Payment and other rental income, but no property management fee categories.
- Organization business income categories include management, leasing, renewal, application, admin and coordination fees, and Miscellaneous Income.
- Picking a multi-unit property itself tags the building; picking an indented unit tags that unit.
Limits
Use Record Rent Payment (chapter 10) for rent on a lease with a rent schedule, so the month is marked paid. Recording rent as plain income doesn't update the lease's rent schedule.
