How do I add an owner?

Who can do this

Organization admins and members with Create Owners. Needs an active subscription.

Where to find it

Owners → Add Owner (also Add new in any owner picker).

Steps

  1. "Who is the owner?": First name, Last name. Continue.
  2. "How do we reach them?": Email, Phone. You need at least a name or an email. Continue.
  3. "Where do they file taxes?": Canada or United States. For the United States, optionally add Tax ID (TIN) ("For 1099-MISC") and tick "This owner is a corporation, so no 1099-MISC is needed". Continue (or Skip).
  4. "Which properties do they own?" (optional): pick properties. "Ownership share and the owner contract are set on the property." Continue.
  5. "Invite them to the owner portal?" (only when you entered a valid email): Invite them ("They see statements and payouts") or Not now ("Invite them later from their page").
  6. "Anything to note?" (optional): Notes.
  7. Select Add owner.

What happens next

With Not now, no toast; the owner appears with "Not Invited". With Invite them, the toast "Owner added and invited — We emailed <email> a link to join the owner portal." and the status becomes "Invited". Each property you picked lists the owner on its Owners tab.

Good to know

Opened from a property's Add new, the property is already selected. Switching taxes back to Canada clears the US fields.

Troubleshooting

  • "Enter a name or an email." / "Invalid email address".
  • "Owner added, but the invitation didn't send — Invite them from their page."
  • "Invitation sent, but not recorded": the email went out but the status still says Not Invited. Don't send it again.
  • "Owner added, but a property wasn't updated — Link that property to them from its page."
  • "Couldn't add owner": nothing saved; try again.
