How do I ask my landlord to end the tenancy by agreement?

ForTenants

Who can do this

Tenants on an accepted lease outside Quebec with no termination in progress.

Where to find it

Leases → the lease → Ask to end by agreement.

Steps

  1. Click Ask to end by agreement.
  2. Choose the Date you'd like to end the tenancy.
  3. Optionally write a Message to your landlord.
  4. Click Send request.

What happens next

You see Request sent to your landlord. The card reads "You asked to end by agreement on <date>. Your landlord prepares the agreement." Your landlord is notified by email and in the app. If they agree, they send you an agreement to sign (next article). If they decline, the card shows "Your landlord declined your request to end the tenancy" with their message, and you can ask again.

Good to know

Co-tenants see that you asked but can't withdraw it. In Quebec the card reads "To end this tenancy by agreement, agree it with your landlord directly. Your landlord records the signed agreement in Kera."

Limits

Asking doesn't end the tenancy. Only a signed agreement does.

Troubleshooting

"The date can't be in the past." / "Choose the date you'd like the tenancy to end."
