How do I open or preview a file?

Who can do this

Anyone who can open Documents.

Where to find it

Documents → any file row or card.

Steps

  1. Click the file once (or More actions → Open).
  2. A PDF opens full screen in Kera's PDF viewer in view-only mode. Close it with the viewer's close button.
  3. An image (JPEG, PNG, WebP) opens in a full-screen preview with Download and Close. Press Escape or click outside the image to close.
  4. Any other file type (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV, text) opens in a new browser tab.

Good to know

Cmd/Ctrl-click or Shift-click selects the file instead of opening it (see "How do I select several files?"). A DocuSign file can also be opened in DocuSign with View in DocuSign.

Troubleshooting

  • "Error rendering PDF. Please try another document." means the PDF couldn't be drawn; use Close, then Download to open it on the computer. If it fails for every PDF, contact Kera support.
  • "This image couldn't be loaded." in the image preview: try Download; escalate if that also fails.
  • Files open through a short-lived link, so a copied file address stops working after a short time. Share the file with an owner instead of sending the link.
