How do I move files or folders?

ForLandlordsProperty managers

Who can do this

Landlords, Organization admins, members with Edit Documents.

Where to find it

Documents → item → More actions → Move, or drag and drop.

Steps

  1. Choose Move. The "Move <n> item(s)" dialog opens at the top level ("Files").
  2. Browse into the destination folder and choose Move here.
  3. Or drag: drag a file or folder row (or card) onto a folder, or onto the back arrow to move it up one level. You can drag several selected items together.

What happens next

A toast reads "Moved <n> item(s)" with "To <destination>." Moving a folder moves everything inside it.

Good to know

Generated files can be moved like any other file. On a phone, or with a keyboard, use Move in the menu.

Limits

A folder can't be moved into itself or one of its own subfolders; those folders are greyed out in the dialog, and a drag there is refused ("Couldn't move"). Nothing can be dragged on the Archived tab. The view tabs are not drop targets.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't move items" with a reason usually means a permission or property-scope limit. Moving a file out of a shared folder removes the folder's sharing from that file.
