How do tenants and owners get into Kera?
ForLandlordsProperty managers
Who can do this
Landlords and Organization users send the invitations. Tenants and Owners accept them.
Where to find it
Tenants are invited from a lease (see the Tenants and leases chapter). Owners are invited from the owner's record (see the Portfolio chapter). Team members are invited from Settings → Members (see the Settings chapter).
Steps
- The manager adds the person with their email address and sends the invitation.
- The person opens the email and follows its button. A new user creates an account on a sign-up form that already has their email filled in. A person who already has a Kera account signs in instead.
- Kera activates the account straight away with the right type. Invited users skip the onboarding screens.
What happens next
- Tenant (new to Kera): email subject "<manager name> invited you to Kera", button Accept invite. The email lists three steps: create your account, review and accept your lease, set up rent payments.
- Tenant (already has a Kera account): email subject "You have a lease to review on Kera", button Review lease, plus an in-app notification "Review your lease".
- Owner: email subject "<manager name> invited you to Kera as a property owner", button Accept invite.
- Team member: email subject "Join <organization name> on Kera", button Join the team.
Good to know
Kera also links people automatically. When someone signs in with a verified email that matches a tenant record or an owner record, Kera adds the Tenant app or Owner app to their account menu without an invitation link (see "Why did Owner app or Tenant app appear in my account menu?").
Limits
A tenant who creates an account on their own (Tenant card during onboarding) sees an empty tenant dashboard until a manager adds them to a lease with the same email address. Tenants can't search for or request to join a landlord.
